This was the 1st assignment we did for English 2. We had to write a descriptive and observational essay on a vegetable we choose. I chose the Enoki Mushroom. The essay involve all my senses from sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste. It was amusing to discover so much details we never notice before while writing this essay.

In the middle of the semester, we had to prepare for a debate. The debate topic our team got was revolving around whether Hang Tuah and Hang Li Po are myths and whether they should be included in our Malaysian history books. We were the supporting team. It was also my first time debating and I learnt a lot from this assignment. I learnt how to use argumentative strategies and using logical evidence to support my speech.

Our 2nd assignment was a compare/contrast essay on a movie genre. I chose musicals over historical movies. The two movies I used for my contrast essay were Mamma Mia! and Dreamgirls. It was my first time analyzing movies so I paid attention to details such as settings and plot of the movies to complete this assignment. I was also learning to understand and interpret the musical movie genre.

As for our final assignment, we had to conduct a research on selected traditional trades in Penang. We went down to Penang around April 2013. Throughout this assignment, I learnt to identify key issues, prepare questionnaires and interviews to gain information. I also learnt to analyse and synthesize the information into a full length 2500-3000 words report.

For our second part of the project, we had to do a video presentation. We were given a role as lecturers for Malaysian Studies subject to teach students about the importance of rattan trade. I learnt to select and present the appropriate information to the target audience.
