SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY

This subject helps us understand various social behavior and discusses the approaches to wide range of problems. It is important for us to understand human behavior in a social context as we become an architect, because we might get into conflicts and should be prepared to overcome the problems.

Assignment 1

This is an individual journal which requires us to write two events or experience and apply the social psychological theories we learnt from Chapter 1 to Chapter 5. I have to admit this task is not easy as we need to analyse the past events carefully before putting it into words. I had to read through the social psychological theories first before I started recalling my past experiences. Then I slowly linked the theories with the events I had in my head. I learnt to apply theories into real life through this assignment.

When I got my grades, I was shocked due to the reason that I have included Chapter 6 in my essay. I mistakenly assumed that I should include Chapter 6 because the Course Outline stated so. However, on the contrary the Project Brief only stated up to Chapter 5. Hence, I made a huge mistake and that costed me my grades. I learnt my lesson to read instructions carefully and clear my doubts before doing my work the hard way. I shall improve on this in my next assignment.

Assignment 2

This is a group assignment as we form a team of 4 or 5 members to do a report and presentation. The topics covered are from Chapter 6 to Chapter 9. We had to look for articles or advertisements on printed materials. The task is to analyse and apply social psychological theories in the articles or advertisements we found. After that, we had to present it to the lecturer.

I learnt to apply the social psychological theories further in real life by analyzing them through printed materials of everyday life. I also realized that some of the theories applied to myself as well.

This assignment came along with a truckload of other assignments during that hectic period. Most of us were too engrossed in our business final project. Thus, we were less prepared for this assignment. I have to admit it was not easy to pick the right article for our presentation. Nevertheless, our team tried our best to make it work.
